2006-07-28 POODLE POWER! THE FOREIGN OFFICE YAPSThe Poodle Polls showed that 63 per cent of Britons consider Tony Blair to be a pet of the American President. Who are the 37 per cent who think he's a free-ranging, independent-minded, mortgage-free prime minister? In response to the poll, Blair's poodle, Margaret Beckett got down on all fours and nipped the US Secretary of State's sweetly-turned ankle. She reacted to the reports that the US was freighting laser-guided weapons for Israel through the UK by telling journalists she was "not happy". The RSPCA was notified and a wave of Unhappy Poodle Shock! headlines swept America. The Foreign Secretary also said: "We have already let the United States know that this is an issue that appears to be seriously at fault, and we will be making a formal protest if it appears that that is what has happened." (When did a British Foreign Secretary last say that an "issue is at fault", incidentally?) The White House spokesman Tony Snow said: "Apparently the British foreign minister thinks the paperwork was not in order . . . we'll get it sorted out." Translation: "Good doggy, sh now, good dog." Question: If Mrs Beckett is really concerned about violations of our airspace, will she be investigating the claims of "extraordinary rendition" torture flights landing in Britain? Answer: No. |
