2006-08-07 WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT AN EARLY ELECTION?Did Tony Blair give us an indication that Gordon will be going early to the country? At his press conference last week, he said that ID cards would be "a major plank of Labour's manifesto at the next election". But the cards are supposed to begin in 2008. Is Tony hinting Gordon is planning on an early run to secure his own mandate? Or is he just baiting him to have a go? It would be impossible not to laugh, in fact to weep with laughter. After ten years of irritable waiting, Gordo gets the job, calls a snap election to confirm his mandate - and loses. | |
